Never too late – If you think that the only merit in exercising is to keep a slim and trim body and for the ones who still have the chance to get one – think again.
The optical benefits of regular exercise might be the most desirable one, but by far not the most beneficial one in the long run.
Every form of exercise will give you some kind of benefit e.g. aerobics, spinning for cardio fitness and stamina, yoga for flexibility and spiritual health, swimming for non impact cardio etc. etc.
BUT one of the most global form of exercising, suitable for everyone from children to older adults, from the unfit and overweight to the athlete, is PILATES. It is an exercise method that strengthens core postural muscles and develops proper body alignment.
Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body.
With systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates teaches balance and control of the body and that capacity spills over into other areas of one’s life.
Practiced faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits. Increased lung capacity and circulation through deep, healthy breathing is a primary focus.
Strength and flexibility, particularly of abdomen and back muscles, co-ordination – both muscular and mental, are key components in an effective Pilates program. Posture, balance, and core strength are all heartily increased.
Bone density and joint health improve, and many experience positive body awareness for the first time!
A word from Joseph Pilates, the founder of Pilates: "The Pilates Method proves that the only real guide to your true age lies not in years, or how you THINK you feel,
but as you ACTUALLY are - as infallibly indicated by the degree of natural and normal flexibility enjoyed by your spine throughout life"
